An Illuminated Arboretum Walk

The National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas
Saturday 15th December : 6:00pm

Iliffe Atwood writes :

I realise this proposed visit is some two months away but I need to know who would care to join us in order that I can reserve an early time slot at the Arboretum, i.e. 6pm or 6:30pm.

I thought that this time would be better for any children coming along as the visit would not be too late in finishing.

Secondly, the entrance money & coach fare will NOT be needed until the end of November.

When I received the details of this Event I wondered if any of you would be interested in coming along. I will now do my best to provide a brief description of what our visit will include: -

This "Illuminated Walk" is approximately 1 mile in length, along paths that are suitable for wheelchair users and provide easy-walking. I believe the walk takes approximately 1 hour to complete.

We will journey down a torch-lit avenue, stopping to experiment with the" shadow wall" and have a go at creating Morse code with colourful LEDs.

The path will then lead through Votive Woods where you will be able to make your own contribution to the displays.

Our walk will finish with a stunning tribute across the iconic Armed Forces Memorial.

Inside the buildings there will be many displays to see and refreshments will also be available.

For those of you wishing to come along our Whittles coach will be parked on our Church car park and ready to leave by 4pm. I believe we should reach the Arboretum by 5:30pm.

If anyone wishes to reserve a wheel-chair, which is free of charge, please let me know when booking your place.

Discounted Entrance Fees:- Seniors & Adults  £8-00      Children (under 16) £5-00
Coach Fare                         ditto                   £15-00    ditto                       £10-00

Hopefully I may be able to reduce the coach fare once I know how many are coming along.
Please let me know by Remembrance Sunday. 11* November if vou wish to join us.
I apologise for the length of this letter but I do took forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely, lliffe.

New Road Anniversary Celebrations 2018

New Road Methodist Church
Harvest Festival : Sunday 30th September : 10:30am
Celebration - Thanks, Memories, Music and Tea : Sunday 7th October : 2:30pm

Celebrations at New Road

In 2018, New Road congregation are celebrating two anniversaries.  The first is the 90th anniversary of the existing building, though there had been a church building on the site since 1805.  Then in September 2008 we had a dedication service led by Rev Dr Leslie Griffiths following a major refurbishment.  So we now celebrate 10 years since moving back into our updated church centre.  Our intention had been to improve facilities for ourselves, with a wonderfully efficient heating system and lovely kitchen but also to create a space which could be used by the wider community.

Street Pastors in Stourbridge was being set up at this time, so we were able to offer them a home – somewhere to store equipment and prepare for a night out on the streets, and a place for a prayer team to gather in support of the street team.

Side by Side Theatre Group also needed a place to meet and prepare for their productions and have been using the rooms for some years.

The New Road Stroke Club (which celebrated its 30th birthday this year) moved back as did our Toddler Group and we were able to start a Youth Club for 9-13 year olds.

The long established Thursday coffee morning has been expanded to include a Knit and Natter group which has also attracted people from the wider community.

Rev Peter Clarke (who was our minister at the beginning of the planning process for the redevelopment) is coming to lead our Harvest Festival on Sunday 30th September at 10:30am and we are having a social celebration event on Sunday 7th October at 2:30pm.  Photographs and other items will be displayed from 27 September to 12 October and visitors are welcome on Thursdays, 10.30-12.00, on Saturday, 6 October 3.00-7.00 and on Sunday, 7 October, from 10.00-2.00.

All are welcome to join us for the Harvest service at 10.30 a.m. on 30 September and, though spaces are limited, friends are invited to come to the afternoon celebration and tea on 7 October.

Please contact
Jane (01384 392006)
if you plan to come to tea on 7 October.

Jam and Scone Service

(Formerly Soup Service)

Kingswinford Methodist Church
Sunday 8th July : 6:00pm

Kingswinford's Jam And Scone Service begins at 6pm on July 8th with... Jam and Scones !  There is no charge but donations to Kingswinford's “Make Me Grow” challenge will be gratefully received.

The change to Jam and Scones from a Soup and Roll is much more suited to the continuing beautiful, sunny weather.

"Make me Grow” - at our recent anniversary service the congregation were all given £1 and the Bible reading Matthew 25 v 14-30, and challenged to bring back the loan with interest to the harvest festival. The results will be added to Kingswinford Young Christians’ seed fund which we hope would eventually be used to enable a fellowship meals service for those who eat alone.  It is also hoped that the church could join others in the “Make Lunch” project, providing holiday meals to children who would get free school dinners in term time.

So we have an idea of numbers, please e-mail Melanie on

or Facebook Messenger her via her post on the Circuit Facebook page.

UPDATE -

Following this evening's successful service at Kingswinford, Melanie Walters writes to say a big thank you to everyone who came and grew the £7 into £36.20! Way better than burying it/today’s bank interest rates !

Love, thanks and God bless,   Melanie
