Gig Mill Methodist Church

Gig Mill

location:- Glebe Road, Gig Mill, Stourbridge, DY8 3YG

Gig Mill church is situated on Glebe Lane in Norton.  We recently celebrated 76 years of joyful witness to Christ with a weekend of activities, which included a Flower Festival, Concert, Morning Anniversary service and Evening Songs of Praise worship.  Invitations were issued to everyone in the community with a connection with the church, and the weekend was voted a huge success!

Community involvement is the key to our lively and welcoming church membership.  The church premises are used during the week by a variety of groups.  Each day Busy Bees kindergarten meet, whereas different groups meet on each night of the week including Tai Chi, Appalachion folk dancing, Stourbridge Judo, Samurai Arts, and Morris Dancing.  Besides the community groups, the church itself runs other activities at various times, including Handicraft group, Parents and Toddlers group, Bright Hour, Choir practice, Bible Discovery group and Sunday School. We also have strong ties with Gig Mill Primary School.  A recent initiative has been the introduction of a Prayer Chain to pray for any one in need, which is filling an important role.

Once a month we hold Coffee mornings which are hosted in different people’s homes.
This encourages fellowship and fun, with a serious purpose.  Earlier this year, at one of these events, we had a ‘Bap and Wrap’ event.  The ‘baps’ were bacon and the ‘wrap’ was a massive scarf, made up of lots of colourful knitted wool squares, which had been made into one long scarf to wrap round the church.  This was later unpicked and made into blankets, and then given to the Salvation Army to distribute abroad to needy families.

Each year we participate in the Samaritans Purse Christmas appeal, filling shoe boxes for young children.  Last year we filled 98 for poor children, giving them a present on Christmas morning.  We are looking forward to the forthcoming ‘Street Pastors’ initiative in Stourbridge.
